AdvanText Frequently Asked Questions

Q.     What is AdvanText?

A.     AdvanText is The Co-Op Store’s textbook reservation system.  When submit your order to The Co-op Store, we will assemble all of the required books for your classes and have them ready for you to pick up before the semester starts.

Q.  How may I place an order for AdvanText?

A.  Orders may be placed by filling out a current AdvanText form and mailing or faxing it to The Co-Op Store.  Orders may also be placed on-line at with Advantext. The most secure way to submit your order would be to use our online form, it is the only order method that you will receive a confirmation.

Q.  When and where may I pick up my order?

A.  Orders may be picked up beginning on the Saturday before classes start.  AdvanText pickup is upstairs, above the Co-Op Store, usually in the Monongahela and Susquehanna rooms.

Q.  May I pick up my books early if I am in the CUSP program?

A.  No.  We cannot be sure whether your books will be pulled yet, or if they are pulled, where your box will be in the AdvanText process.  We do not pull the CUSP books with your AdvanText order.  Students will be coming in during that program to purchase those books separately.  You really do not need any of your other books before classes begin, as you will be busy with work from the CUSP program.

Q.  What if my schedule changes?

A.  If you need to make a change to your schedule or any other information on your order form, please call 724-357-3067 or 1-800-537-7916.  Please do not re-submit your order.

Q.     Why are optional textbooks not included with my reservation?

A.     In some cases, books are marked optional because your faculty member wants students to choose one book from a list of 2, 3 or even more titles.  Other books are simply aids that may help some students with the class.  In either case, the decision as to whether or not to purchase an optional book is one best made upon consultation with your professor.

Q.     Am I guaranteed used books if I order AdvanText?

A.     We fill orders with used books as long as we have used books.  In some cases, used books are simply not available.  It might be that the book was recently released in a new edition or that the demand for the book simply exceeds the number of used copies the store has on hand.  Study guides and lab manuals are ‘consumable’ items, where pages may be filled in, ripped out, or used in such a manner that used copies are not advisable.

Q.  What do ‘No Text Required’, ‘No Text Ordered’, and ‘Not Yet Received’ mean?

A.  In some cases, a professor may choose not to use a textbook for their class.  Assuming
that the bookstore has been informed of this, the class will be designated ‘No Text
Required’.  ‘No Text Ordered’ means that the bookstore has not yet received a book

order from the professor.  If a textbook has been ordered but has not yet arrived at the
bookstore from the publisher, it will be noted ‘Not Yet Received’ on your AdvanText
sheet.  You will not be charged for any books that are not in your box at the time of pick-
up.  These books may be purchased in the store.

Q.  How much will my books cost?

A.  This question is almost impossible to answer.  In many cases you will be submitting
your AdvanText order before we have received a textbook order from the faculty, in some
cases even before a faculty member is assigned to the class.  We work up until the last
moment in searching for used books to reduce the total cost of your order.  Books may
arrive only the day before you arrive on campus.  For all of these reasons we are unable
to give you a price quote before your order is pulled.  We can, however, call you with a
total after your books have been pulled.  To request this, please call The Co-Op Store.
Remember, purchasing these books is no risk to you.  Books may be returned for a full
refund, with receipt, according to the returns policy stated earlier.

Q.  What if I need to return some of my books?

A.  Attend all of your classes first.  Do not write your name in your books or mark them in
any way until you are certain that you are keeping them.  The Co-op Store will accept
     returns under the following conditions:

·         Incorrect textbooks must be returned during The Co-Op Store’s official return period. This essentially corresponds to IUP’s official drop/add period. (Summer sessions vary based on starting date and length of term).

·         Returns will be accepted for one week following the above return period with a signed class withdrawal slip and register receipt.

·         You must present your I-Card and cash register receipt when returning books.  Returns without a receipt may be accepted at the store’s discretion with a 25% penalty from the original selling price.

·         New textbooks must be returned in new condition.  Writing, highlighting, other marks, missing or opened CDs and PIN codes, torn pages and other wear will result in a refund at the used book selling price, at the discretion of the store.

·         Reference and other non-required books are not returnable.

Q.  How is my refund credited?  Do I get cash back?

A.  If you paid by credit card, we will refund that same credit card.  If you paid by check, we
will issue a refund check after your original check clears.  If you paid by cash or
ATM/MAC/debit card you will be given cash for your return.

Q.  Are there advantages to paying in advance?

A.  Yes.  When you pre-pay for your AdvanText, you will not have to wait in line at the cash
register when you pick up your order.  You may have to wait in a much shorter line to
actually get your box of books, but then you can be on your way.

Q.  When will my credit card be charged?

A.  Your credit card will not be charged until we pull your books.  We generally begin pulling
orders two weeks before the first day of classes.  Your credit card may be charged
anytime within this two week period.

Q.  Why do you keep credit card numbers on file for the first 4 weeks of classes?

A.  In addition to required textbooks, some students will need to purchase one or more
optional books.  Out of stock textbooks can also be charged to the number on file after
the books arrive.  School supplies such as pens, pencils, notebooks and the like are
also necessary for a successful semester, and keeping your credit card number on file
allows their purchase with a minimum of hassle. The credit card information is only kept
on file at the request of the parents, and can be restricted to textbooks only if you should
     so wish.

Q. I would like you to keep my card on file for the entire semester.  Can you do that?

A. Yes.  Simply check the appropriate line on your AdvanText form.

Q. I don’t have a credit card.  Can I still take advantage of AdvanText?

A. Yes.  You can either start a prepaid debit account at The Co-op Store, or pay when you
     pick up your books.

Q. May I mail a check in advance of the pickup date?

A. No.  Because we are unable to give you a price quote on your order, it would be
impossible for you to write a check for the proper amount.  If you wish to send us a
check, please consider setting up a debit account or pay for your books when you
     pick them up.

Q. How do I set up a debit account?

A.  Call 1-800-537-7916, and select option 0.  Be prepared to give the following information:

·         Student name

·         Student address

·         Student phone number

·         Banner ID#

·         Credit card number & expiration date

·         Cardholder's name

·         Cardholder's address

·         Cardholder's phone number

·         Amount that you would like to be deposited on account

·         Will this account be restricted to textbooks only, textbooks and supplies, or have no restrictions on spending (other than the prepaid limit)?

You may also set up a debit account with a check, money order or credit card.  Include all of the above information, make the check payable to The Co-op Store, and mail it to:

The Co-op Store
Indiana University of Pennsylvania
319 Pratt Dr.

 Q.  I have additional questions. How may I contact The Co-Op Store?

A.  Call 1-800-537-7916, and select option 0 to provide a credit card number or to speak to
     the textbook department.
