Q.     Do You Sell Only Books?

A.    No, the Co-op Store sells a variety of items that we have found
most requested in our store. Plus we keep up with college trends
through a national organization devoted just to college stores. Our
store includes "trade" books (non required reference books, national
best selling titles, new releases, and local authors), school supplies,
art supplies, greeting cards, gifts, computers, computer supplies and
peripherals plus IUP imprinted gifts and clothing, and let's not forget
       textbooks.

Q.     How Can I Pay For My Purchases?

A.     We accept cash, personal checks, money orders and traveler's
checks. Plus MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express, and
MAC debit cards. Proper identification will be required for all
purchases with the exception of cash sales.

Q.     Can I Use My Parent's Credit Card?

A.     We will accept a parent's credit card provided the parent has called
us in advance or notified us in writing and we have their permission
logged into our system. To make these arrangements please call
        (724) 357-3145 or for your convenience 800-537-7916 option 2, or
mail to The Co-op Store,   319 Pratt Drive, Indiana, PA 15701-2989,
        Attn: Front Desk.

Q.     My Mom Wrote A Check Can I Use It?

A.     With proper identification we will accept you parents check. Proper
identification includes your I-Card or a photo drivers license. We
also need current address and telephone number on the check. We
ask that parents send more than one check with the student who
will be living away from home. It's possible that not all of your books
and supplies will be available at one time or something may come up
requiring additional funds. Please remember that The Co-op Store
and the University are two separateaccounts one can not accept
money for the other. All checks for The Co-op Store should be made
payable to The Co-op Store and signed by a parent. Also keep in
mind that local banks usually will not cash checks from outside a
radius of 50 miles. they will hold the check until it clears making this
money unusable for two weeks. There is a $20.00 fee for any check
that is returned from the bank.

Q.     How Much Will My Books Cost?

A.     This depends on what courses you are taking and whether you buy
new or used textbooks. Most full time students can expect to spend
an average of $400 on their textbooks and supplies each semester.

Q.     What Are Used Textbooks?

A.     Used textbooks are just as the name implies. Whenever possible The
Co-op Store sells used textbooks for all requisitioned classes. You
can save  25% when you buy used textbooks. The only times used
books might not be available would be in the case of a new edition
or a late order from a professor. Lab manuals are always new. Keep
in mind that at the end of each semester The Co-op Store will buy
your textbooks from you. This is one of the ways we purchase
        these books for future sales.

Q.     How Do I Find My Books?

A.     The textbook section is in alphabetic order by course prefix - this
can be found on your schedule. Please remember to bring your
schedule with you when you come to purchase your books. During
Book Rush student employees are always available to help you or
answer any questions you might have. Please ask!

Q.     What If I Buy The Wrong Book For My Class?

A.    Don't panic.

The Co-op Store will accept returns under the following conditions:

·         Incorrect textbooks must be returned during IUP’s official drop/add period as posted on the university’s central calendar. This is usually 5-6 days from the beginning of classes. (Summer sessions vary based on starting date)

·         Returns will be accepted for one week following the drop/add period with a signed class withdrawal slip.

·         You must present your I-Card and cash register receipt when returning books.  Returns without a receipt may  be accepted with a 25% penalty from the original selling price at the store’s discretion.

·         New textbooks must be in new condition.  Writing, highlighting, other marks, missing or opened CDs and PIN codes, torn pages and other wear will result in a refund at the used book price, at the discretion of the store.

·         Reference and other non-required books are not returnable.

Once you are sure your books are the right ones for your class we suggest you mark them in a way that you could identify them should they be stolen. Pick a favorite number - turn to that page in the book and make an identifying mark. This could help you at a later point in time.

Q.     Who makes the textbook selections and sets the price?

A.          The faculty member teaching a selected course submits a book order
to the bookstore, indicating author, title, edition, etc.

THE STORE HAS NO VOICE IN SELECTION OF TITLES

Textbooks are sold at publisher’s cost prices plus a normal store markup to cover expenses.  The Co-op Store is able to pass some savings on to the students by using a markup that is below the national average for college stores. Used books are priced at 75% of the new price. In an effort to reduce the overall cost of your books, we stock as many used copies as possible. In some cases used books are not available, whether it be that the book has come out in a new edition, or the faculty member has bundled required materials with the book that can not be obtained except through the publisher. We do make every effort we can to save the students money.
