Policies and Procedures

Book Return Policy

Attend all your classes.  Do not write your name in your books or mark them in any way until you are certain that you are keeping them.  The Co-op Store will accept returns under the following conditions:

·         Incorrect textbooks must be returned during IUP’s official drop/add period as posted on the university’s central calendar. This is usually 5-6 days from the beginning of classes. (Summer sessions vary based on starting date)

·         Returns will be accepted for one week following the drop/add period with a signed class withdrawal slip.

·         You must present your I-Card and cash register receipt when returning books.  Returns without a receipt may  be accepted with a 25% penalty from the original selling price at the store’s discretion.

·         New textbooks must be in new condition.  Writing, highlighting, other marks, missing or opened CDs and PIN codes, torn pages and other wear will result in a refund at the used book price, at the discretion of the store.

·         Reference and other non-required books are not returnable.

 Reorder Policy

On Out-Of-Stock Textbooks

There are many reasons why a store may run out of stock. Some of these are:

·         An unusually larger enrollment than estimated.

·         A member of the teaching staff may have chosen a title being stocked for another course without submitting a requisition.

·         A clerical error in the bookstore's ordering process.

·         A last minute change of instructor in a course.

·         The title is temporarily out-of-stock at the publisher's warehouse and is not available to the bookstore.

·         Last minute additional sections.

Regardless of the reason that a book has gone out-of-stock, the store usually reorders most titles as soon as possible. To assist us, when students learn that a book is out-of-stock, they need to let their professor know so that he can apprise the store of the quantity needed to be ordered. Every college bookstore is ordering at this time and publishers may fall behind in shipping. It is suggested that you buy all of your books early to avoid the possibility of facing a long delay if the bookstore should sell out.

Everyday Buyback Policy

The Co-op Store buys books back EVERYDAY. Our prices come straight from a national used book wholesalers buying guide. We pay premium prices twice a year, at the end of the Fall and Spring semester, based on need for classes, here at IUP. (For further information about buyback click on buyback information from the main page. This will help to explain more of “Why you get, what you get” when selling your books back)

Lowest Price Guarantee Policy

After purchasing your textbooks from The Co-op Store, if you should find your book cheaper in a college bookstore within Indiana County, please let us know. After verifying that the price difference does exist, we will refund you the difference between the two prices plus 25% of the difference.

For example, you buy a book from us at $90.00 and you find it elsewhere for $80.00. You then bring in the information, we verify the price and if we find we are higher, we will refund you $10.00 plus 25% of the difference ($10.00) for a total of $12.50. Please Note:  You must have a Co-op Store receipt to receive the refunded difference.

We offer this guarantee because we want to know that we are working everyday at keeping your college expenses to the minimum. Please trust us when we say we offer the lowest textbook prices in Indiana.

Guaranteed!

Shoplifting Policy

Since the students own the Co-op Store, we have come up with new security measures to protect “your” assets. In the Spring 2003 semester we have added Civil Demand. What is civil demand you ask? Civil demand allows us the flexibility to not only bring shoplifting charges against those who steal from the student body, but allows us to add a fine for compensation to the store for just such an act. We fully intend to prosecute all violators to the fullest extent of the law. Our camera system, greeters, and floor walkers do their best everyday to protect what the students own, “The Co-op Store”.

General Merchandise Return Policy

The Co-op Store carries a wide variety of products. Each non-book department handles returns on an individual basis, however one thing that will make things easier for everyone, returns must be accompanied by a register receipt.
